Raising the Barre & Chasing Your Dreams

blog61_2I love Cardio Barre, and I love stories of people making their dreams come true … so this is a perfect story! My friend and cast mate, Eric Martsolf, recently moved with his wife, Lisa, and family to Las Vegas to open their very own Cardio Barre studio. I am so excited for them, and since I haven’t made it there to see it for myself (I am planning a visit), I asked them to share their story here. These two are just adorable … and more importantly I love how they are supporting each other as they take the leap on this new adventures.

Cheers to new adventures! (and if you’re in or near Las Vegas, go visit their new Cardio Barre!)

Working Hard to Make it Happen

It’s so hard to believe that it’s been six years! Six years since I got a call from my manager, Michael Bruno, asking if I’d be willing to take a meeting with a guy who was starting a web series. I wasn’t working much at the time, and while I didn’t know much about the web series world, I thought “what the heck,” and went. Little did I know what adventure was in store!

Enriching Lives Through the Performing Arts

As I’ve shared many times, acting is something I’ve always known I wanted to do. From my earliest days in school – where I was lucky enough to take acting and performing arts classes – to the Taco Bell job I got when I was just 14 so I could pay for my after school acting classes, I’ve always managed to find ways to pursue this love.

A FANtastic Weekend

Over the past few weeks, I, along with my long-time friends/colleagues, have been celebrating Days of Our Lives’ 50th anniversary with abandon – parties, cake-cutting, photo opportunities and catching up with old friends. In an industry where it is so rarely the case, Days of Our Lives and Ken Corday have given us this amazing gift of a “home.” For most, if not all, of us, it was initially just a job opportunity … a perceived short-term thing and then, as the nomadic actor life goes, on to the next “gig.” Now, 29 years have passed for me since I signed that first contract (and that’s short compared to so many there), and I feel lucky everyday!

Baking Class … the Pear Tarte Tatin

As I’ve shared before, hosting dinner parties is one of my favorite things to do – they are enhancers of life for me. When hosting dinner parties, it’s easy to get wrapped up in the food prep and forget the real reason you’re there, which is to spend times with loved ones.

Over the years, I’ve learned that one of the keys to a successful dinner party is finding menu items that my guests will enjoy, but won’t require so much attention that I can’t enjoy myself too. One dessert I’ve discovered that fits that bill is this delicious pear tarte tatin. It’s super easy to prepare, beautiful when finished and always a party pleaser!

A few years ago I taught a class at my sister’s cooking school, The Farm School on Los Rios, and showed the participants how to make both my apple pie (you might remember this blog about that) and this delicious tarte tatin. So once again, I’m sharing video from that class so you can see for yourself just how simple it is.

Sitting Down for a Chat

I’ve mentioned before that I love reading your comments, and I appreciate when you take the time to respond, share your own experiences and ask questions. Recently, a reader sent in an email full of great questions, so I decided to use them as an opportunity to sit down for another video blog. Thanks, Sandie Coco, for your great comments and questions … please keep them coming!

If you give an actor a cookie …

blog28_3When my kids were growing up, I loved it when they’d bring their friends to our house to hang out; and one way to make sure they did was to always have fresh-baked cookies. As usual for me, I found a recipe and added a little of this and changed a little of that to make it my own. The result is a pretty darn good chocolate chip cookie … if I do say so myself.  And if you don’t believe me, I’ve gotten a few testimonials from my Days of Our Lives co-workers – who have also enjoyed them over the years.

These are super easy to make, so I typically keep the ingredients on-hand so I can make them for my kids, friends or co-workers on a whim. Try these out and let me know what you think. And, if you have a cookie recipe you love – I’d love for you to share yours too!
