House Envy: A Victorian renovation with heart & soul

Several months ago, I was walking in an area near my home and I saw the most beautiful house. I’d walked past this old Victorian home on many occasions, and had even been inside during an open house … but on this day it was like looking at a new house!

As someone who loves architecture and is constantly considering a remodeling of my own, I had to know more. So, I knocked on the door and met the sweetest woman, Kelly, who was responsible for this house’s unbelievable transformation. A former prosecutor who shares my love of architecture, design, gardening and more, Kelly was so inspiring … and a perfect fit for PLANK!

We’ve kept in touch since our first, chance encounter; and in that time, Kelly (who has an amazing blog) has not only finished the remodeling project, but also has released her first book! Clearly she’s been busy, but she was kind enough to give me a tour of the house, and share her journey to becoming a blogger, podcaster and author.

We had so much to talk about that we couldn’t get it all in one blog. So this week, join me on a tour of Kelly’s beautiful home, as she shares stories about the home’s history, her relentless pursuit to own it and her year-long remodeling project.

Then, sit down with us next week as I talk with Kelly about her blog, her book and her reinvention.

Loved the blog this week. Thanks Mary Beth. So interesting. Your American architecture is so different to ours in Australia. What I loved most was the knowledge that both of you have about the topics you talked about. Well done! More please!!

  13. I love Victorian houses and enjoyed the tour! I loved all the old features but found all the white overwhelming. I prefer wood and color, but I’m impressed with the change from what the house was when they moved in. I enjoyed the stories–the history–too!

Wow! What a beautiful house! I love old Victorian houses as well. There is something about the history that just makes them so cool. Kelly did an AMAZING job reinventing the house. The old furniture she was able to keep were beautiful pieces. I have to say the stove was my favorite! So incredible! How cool is all that history that came with it?!
Thank you, Mary Beth, Kelly, and Mandy for providing us with a tour. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for next week.
