Grateful for My Full Plate

I should warn you … today’s blog is going to be all over the place … just like I’ve been for the past week, lol.

Between memorizing lines, working and helping my husband with a renovation project at his office, I’ve been stressed out and just plain bogged down. At times like this, my gut instinct is to say “let’s find something easy to do for the blog.” But then I realize that my life is probably like many of yours in that way, and this is one of the many reasons I started PLANK – to share and discuss this juggling act called life. And maybe, in doing so, we can help each other out.

The 29-year gift of friendship

This week is the 27th anniversary of the wedding of Steve & Kayla, and in thinking of that, I can’t help but think of the amazing gift these characters gave me a 29-year friendship with Stephen Nichols. Over the course those 29 years, we have laughed, cried and loved each other. And to have the opportunity to work together again, after years apart, is something for which I am so grateful.

In honor of “our 27th wedding anniversary,” I wanted to share a short conversation between the two us us. Thanks for your help with the questions we’ll do this again soon!

Rejection, Kissing & Taking Care of Your Feet

One of the best parts of starting PLANK has been the opportunity to hear from so many of you – your thoughts, feedback and kind words have been so great to read. And, while I haven’t responded to every comment, I do read and appreciate each one of them … and they’ve given me several ideas for future blogs.

Recently, I received an email from one of our PLANK readers, Lynne Hasselman, who shared not only kind words about the blog, but also a number of suggestions for future topics. I was so impressed with Lynne’s thoughtful email (she’s clearly a writer), that I thought I’d take on the whole thing as my first real video blog.

A Day in the Life on Set

I am so grateful to have had the career I’ve had – with the opportunity to work regularly in daytime, as well as guest stints in primetime and now my online role on THE BAY. And I’m forever grateful to those of you who’ve watched and stayed with me over the years.

I know that what you all see onscreen, or read about in magazines, etc., can seem so glamorous; but I have to admit … as much as I love what I do, it’s not nearly as glamorous as it all seems. In fact, what you’re seeing is the result of a lot of hard work on the behalf of so many people – writers, directors, crews and my fellow cast mates. It’s early mornings and late nights. Sometimes hours in the hair & makeup chair.  And it’s usually a whole lot of hurry up and wait.

Sweet rewards … and wrangling the wrap

This past weekend was a whirlwind of activities – two Daytime Emmy evenings and two separate Best Show wins. After my outfit contemplations over the last month, my choices felt right! Friday evening’s girl tux was comfortable, fun and certainly different than the majority of other gals at the event. Sunday evening was the televised event and I wore a beautiful dress, but still had to wrestle “the wrap.” At some point I just had to ditch it, let the arms be out and just go with it! That moment aside, it was a great night!

All In …

Thank you all for the thoughtful comments you’ve shared here so far – I love reading your reactions and learning about how much we all have in common. I can relate to so many of the experiences you’ve shared, and one in particular strikes me today – the times in our life when we’re bored, idle or feeling a complete lack of motivation.

As I mentioned in my very first post, I am a product of a single mother who worked hard, but struggled financially. I have always been a worker bee, so I got a job when I was 14 (back when you could) so I could afford to buy the “extras.” I started working hard, or hustling as I like to think, to achieve goals I had laid out for myself; and I’ve never really stopped.

A fun return to the past and a great make-up tip

As I mentioned in my last blog I was returning to As The World Turns (ATWT) in New York for a few days. The travel was tough. Out of my house on the west coast to catch a 7 a.m. flight and both workdays I was to be picked up at Grand Central Station at 6:25 a.m. I maneuvered all that, mostly on adrenaline. Man was I tired, but it was worth it. The ride out to Brooklyn was a pleasure. Catching up with people I haven’t seen in a while was great. It was great seeing the gang at the studio. The man who now portrays my ex-husband on the show, Jon Lindstrom, played my boyfriend on the first soap I ever did in I think 1984…that was a hoot…we haven’t aged a bit…ha-ha.
