Christmas Decorating: Simple Tips for a Beautiful Holiday Home

I love decorating for the holidays, and I love seeing what others have done. I was especially excited to see what my friend Kelly, who you all met a few blogs ago, would do to her beautiful home. And boy, she did not disappoint!!

Christmas Decorating

by Kelly Wilkniss

It started with a fateful knock on the door and a single question…”who is your designer“?

I am the designer. Mary Beth was the knocker.

Since that day, friendships developed, tours have been taken, videos made and now, I have the honor of guest posting on PLANK!

I am Kelly ~ the knock-ee. My blog is My Soulful Home. I host Decorating Tips & Tricks ~ the podcast, my book is My Soulful Home ~ a year in flowers and I co-created the app ~ bHome.

But moreover, I am Mary Beth’s neighbor! And she invited me here today to talk about Christmas decorating.

Since there isn’t much time left, let’s get to it…

Christmas Kitchen

Come on into my Christmas kitchen. I decided to add another tree to the room I spend the most time in and wow – do I enjoy it!

If you can, I suggest popping a tree into your kitchen.

This one is a faux – bet you guessed that as it is platinum! Figured if we were going faux lets really go faux.

I love how super sparkly it is day or night.

I toned down the glitz of the tree with rustic touches. I love the smash up of burlap & bling!

Christmas Porch

The first area I decorate for Christmas is my porch.

Since my house has a lot of white and neutrals, I had fun adding in bright red to mark the season.

The foundation of my porch stays the same, I simply swap out the accessories and choose a pop color for the holidays & seasons.

A bowl or basket of simple inexpensive drug store ornaments is an easy and effective decoration inside or out.

Christmas Mantle

The mantle in the living room is draped with garlands and a wreath. I pulled a chair near the hearth and tucked in gifts that will later go under the main tree.

My kids just figured they were empty boxes wrapped. Nope, some of the real deal has been sitting out for weeks!

We have a bunch of podcast episodes on Christmas Decor.

This one on decorating your mantle has lots of great tips. Just click the arrow to listen right here.

Quick & Easy Christmas Decor

Let’s be honest sometimes Christmas decorating can seem overwhelming with all we are already doing this season.

Maybe you started out like an elf on fire and petered out or haven’t even begun. I have simple, easy ideas for ushering in the holiday that you can do in a few minutes flat.

Such as simply adding some greens here & there; highlighting an ornament under glass; or filling a bowl filled with shiny colors of the season.

Christmas Flowers

Flowers are a passion of mine and I enjoy little more than designing them into beautiful arrangements.

I have a simple formula to follow to get stunning results every time. I share that in my book, along with tutorials for 12 arrangements, ideas for cutting gardens and check lists that make it all so simple.

This is my December arrangement.

I made it in 3 containers so it could be grouped on a large table for a big floral wow or separated and used to grace a coffee table for cocktails, a guest room for special visitors and more.

Designed in 3 silver pitchers, this arrangement gives beauty & flexibility.

If you want to see the other 11 arrangements and check out my book head HERE.

Truth be told I am still decorating for Christmas!

I love it and can’t seem to stop wrapping garland around anything that stands still long enough!

Whether you dive into your Christmas bins with gusto or prefer to go a more minimalist route, any amount of festive decor goes a long way to making this time of year even more special.

It was certainly special for me to share my Christmas decorating ideas with you today.

Feel free to come over anytime. You don’t even have to knock, just come on in!
