Making Our Own Holiday Traditions

I love holidays … pretty much all of them! When my kids were growing up I would always make a HUGE Christmas Eve dinner with my friend, Carrie, and we would invite ALL of our family. It was always a big sit down dinner with Christmas china the two of us had been collecting.  After dinner, my family would head back to their respective homes, which are about an hour away from me, while most of Carrie’s family would stay over.  When I would call the next day, Carrie’s family would be making a huge breakfast and hanging together – and I must say I was always a little envious!

Somehow or another, I weaseled my way in and now, for the last 12 years, we spend the whole week together … yippee! Now we all make a big breakfast together. We’ll start with Carrie’s homemade coffee cake over presents (mind you it’s usually around noon by the time this happens … how are the parents up so much earlier than the kids now?). Then, after that fun time has “wrapped,” we all chip in and make the most amazing breakfast – sometimes this incredible baked egg recipe or a big egg scramble. We will lay out bacon on cookie sheets and bake in the oven ( less mess and easy), cook sausages, cut up fresh fruit and maybe fry some potatoes. Yum!

I try to stay in my jammies as long as I can … just take the day off! Our kids, who are all so close, only see each other a couple times a year now that they’re grown, so they relish this treasured time of the year. We may not do the Easy Bake Oven and toy assembly anymore, but this stage is pretty darn fabulous!  Make some traditions for yourself … it makes life so special and gives you so much to look forward to every year!

  16. Mary Beth,

It is SO kind of you to open your life to us, and share some of your favorite traditions. Since we are close in age, and our children at a similar stage in life, your postings really resonate with me. It seems we share a similar feeling about the most important things in life not being “things” at all, but time spent with loved ones!

As we fans of Days of our Lives enjoy the Christmas shows that you and your colleagues taped many months ago, we are appreciating both your talent and your connection with one another on set. May you, your personal family, and your “Days” family (especially Patchy-Claus) enjoy a very blessed Christmas, and a healthy, happy and connected New Year!

    With all Best Wishes,

    Cindi
