Loving the Skin You’re In

Skin care … it’s something so many of us struggle with, no matter our age. One of our readers, Jacinta, recently sent in a question about skin care; and since it’s such a common cause of concern, I thought I’d take the opportunity to share with you what’s worked for me … as well as reach out to an expert I know for some really great professional advice.

Jacinta asked: “What is the secret to your beautiful skin?” She went on to add that, as 36-year-old nurse, she struggles with bad skin, and she wondered if I had any magic skin care item I could recommend.

Protecting Your Pearly Whites

As many of you may know, my daughter, Katie, is a dental student. This is such an exciting time as I get to watch her develop her skills as a dentist … the compasion and enthusiasm were already there. This past week, I went to see her in her clinic, where I got a VERY comprehensive exam.  I asked her to be a guest blogger this week and give us some information about an outreach program that she is involved with that really makes a difference!

Exercise Party

Last week I read a blog that I found interesting and thought I would share.

EXERCISE PARTY
by Monica Davis (http://monicalorandavis.tumblr.com)

I exercise a lot. I exercise as a job and I exercise for fun.  I exercise in the morning and I exercise at night, sometimes both in one day if I’m feeling sassy!

I wasn’t always a fit little lady.  Some days, I don’t consider myself a fit person at all.  I call those days my ‘fat days’ and that’s not kind to myself or to people who are actually fat.  And fuck it, I’ll say ‘fat’ because lots of fat people are owning that word because they’re taking the power back, like ‘queer’ and what not.

Grateful for My Full Plate

I should warn you … today’s blog is going to be all over the place … just like I’ve been for the past week, lol.

Between memorizing lines, working and helping my husband with a renovation project at his office, I’ve been stressed out and just plain bogged down. At times like this, my gut instinct is to say “let’s find something easy to do for the blog.” But then I realize that my life is probably like many of yours in that way, and this is one of the many reasons I started PLANK – to share and discuss this juggling act called life. And maybe, in doing so, we can help each other out.

Going the Distance

My friends and I getting ready for a 10K run

When my children were little, my friends and I would push our strollers around the Rose Bowl stadium. I’d see people jogging and think “I could never do that.” Then my mother-in-law came to visit us – she was well into her 60s and jogged the over three mile track. This made us think maybe we could do it too. We got baby jogger type strollers and slowly worked our way to making it around the track. I eventually made a tradition of doing a 10K every 4th of July.

Over the years I have switched up my exercise, but I know I look (and more importantly feel) better when I am consistent with some type of exercise. When I am not doing it regularly, I don’t want to; and when I am, I can’t wait to go. You just need to get started…

How yoga changed my life

*As previously published on Hybrid Mom

As far back as I can remember my mother would fix things herself. A hammer and a screwdriver and she was ready to go. I have always felt I could do things myself as well. I have painted all the rooms in my house myself, l planted all my plants and am constantly moving things around. My oldest son Danny would often ask me when I had commandeered him to help me move things around, ‚couldn’t you pick a hobby that didn’t require me moving furniture?‛

Well last spring it finally caught up with me.
