Recharged and Ready to Go

The hustle and bustle of work, marriage, children and just everyday life can be such a whirlwind … you look up sometimes and wonder where the time went. And with all of those things keeping us all so busy, it’s even more important to set aside time to take care of not only yourself, but also the friendships that mean so much.

As I sat down this week to recap my fabulous getaway weekend with some of my best girlfriends, I was reminded of a similar post I wrote for Hybrid Mom. I looked back and was shocked to discover that was four and a half years ago. How did that happen? Back then, we vowed to do a girls weekend every year. But I guess, as they say, and as I’m sure you know all too well – life gets in the way.

In the time since our last getaway we’ve had so many legitimate excuses — graduations, new jobs, kids moving away, family illnesses and the loss of precious ones. During that time, we’ve shared many “counseling” phone calls and have been to comfort one another. But there really is nothing like getting away. So thank goodness we put a date on our calendars and finally made it happen. Really, that’s all it takes – setting a date and committing to put all of life’s other adventures on hold for just a few days.

Outside my comfort zone

I saw a t-shirt once that read “Do something everyday that scares you.” And while I don’t necessarily loved being scared, I do love pushing past my comfort zone — because that’s where all the good stuff is!

With that in mind, I’m always looking for a new adventure — whether that’s trying out a new exercise class with friends, taking on a new home improvement project or traveling with family. I believe in saying yes to opportunities and trust that, no matter what, I’ll figure it out along the way.

So, what’s your next adventure?

Step outside the box

*As previously published on Hybrid Mom

It’s not often in all of our busy lives that we really step outside of our ‘boxes’ and experience new things. Last month my husband and I got the opportunity to do just that when some friends of ours generously took us on a trip to Bora Bora. They have a boat moored there and they go monthly (nice I know). It was beyond fabulous and I got to experience so many new and exciting things. There was a chef on board and we ate amazingly! One day my husband caught a Mahi Mahi fish and they filleted it right on the back of the boat. They grilled some of it and made a raw Pokie salad with the rest for lunch. OMG…WOW! What a fun experience.

My new adventure

On my never ending road to … I’m not sure what, I took a canning class last weekend. When I told my husband I was going to spend my Saturday morning doing this, I have to say he did a double take. Unusual maybe, but I am always looking for my ‘next big adventure.’ I am also dying to learn how to make fabulous ice cream. That will be upcoming I am sure but last week, canning was the new adventure!
