Step outside the box

It’s not often in all of our busy lives that we really step outside of our ‘boxes’ and experience new things. Last month my husband and I got the opportunity to do just that when some friends of ours generously took us on a trip to Bora Bora. They have a boat moored there and they go monthly (nice I know). It was beyond fabulous and I got to experience so many new and exciting things. There was a chef on board and we ate amazingly! One day my husband caught a Mahi Mahi fish and they filleted it right on the back of the boat. They grilled some of it and made a raw Pokie salad with the rest for lunch. OMG…WOW! What a fun experience.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe owners are big scuba divers and took us to endless ‚hot spots.‛ My husband Michael and I were certified on our honeymoon 25 years ago but this was like no other place we had been to. The water is crystal clear and the visibility is amazing! The amount of wildlife we were able to see was incredible. The first day they took us to an area with sharks which they said are harmless but I must say I was freaked out. I stayed all of about 8 minutes. The video below was just the small black tip shark but the Lemon sharks that were there look just like a regular shark and were about 12′ long…YIKES. I did love the turtles, tropical fish and even the sting rays were cool, but sharks…? No thanks.

Regardless of the shark fright, getting away to such a beautiful place was a real treat and opens your eyes to so much more than what we see in our day to day grind. It makes you realize how much there is out there for us all to experience if we are willing to step outside of our box and explore. Sure Bora Bora would be a great way to do it but I bet you can find places right in your own neighborhoods that you’ve never been to or experienced. Take advantage of what is around you – bring your children on little adventures as often as possible. Even taking them to a park that you don’t usually go to would seem like a new world to them. It’s so easy to fall into the same routines day after day, week after week, etc. Change it up and have fun – you’ll make lasting memories and open your children’s eyes to the enormous world around them.

  1. Wow so amazing, sharks. I’ve been diving for 25 years too.
