Beautiful, Talented & Brave: Living with Anxiety & Depression

My beautiful friend Kate Mansi bravely shares her story to stop the stigma of depression

I remember the first day I met Kate Mansi, who would soon be my dear friend, when she joined our cast at Days of Our Lives. Truly such a vibrant, beautiful girl – inside and out.

Over the years together on the show, I have watched her grow so much as an actress and a young woman. Whenever her scenes came up on the monitor in the makeup room, I always made a point to turn up the volume, stop and watch, because I always knew they were going to be something extraordinary! She brings such depth, heart and soul to every scene.

Love, Kindness & Gratitude: Lessons Learned by a Cancer Survivor

Last week, Stephen and I had the pleasure of joining some fans for a lunch that we auctioned off earlier this year to raise money for One World Stage & Screen. The winner of the auction, Tamra, brought along her Mom and two friends – Trish and Nancy. I learned during the lunch that Nancy was the same woman, a cancer survivor, who’d recently written me a letter about her fight and the beautiful things she discovered as a result.

Taking the Stage … and a Leap of Faith

Many times, as I am daydreaming out the passenger side window while someone else drives, I am captivated by the passersby. I often imagine the day of the other cars’ occupants … their lives, them getting ready and getting into their cars to start the day.

Like those people in cars, we all move around on this planet in our designated or chosen groups or families.  How do we create our little circles? And why are we so easily ruffled or annoyed when a stranger stands too close or otherwise infringes on our circle? Sometimes, I think we close those circles in so tight that we find ourselves stuck … maybe we want to branch out, but we no longer know how.

Getting Back on the Wagon with Real Food

If you saw my Instagram last weekend, you saw I was reading the Whole30. Truthfully, I am always looking for something to help me finally get my weight down, and stabilize it without the up and down fluctuations. It’s been something I’ve struggled with, to some degree, for most of my life. And I’m sure it’s something to which many of you can relate. I’m sure some of you can also relate to my approach to this. I see or hear about some new weight loss fad, some diet that worked for someone I know or read about in a magazine, and I’m in. Over the years I’ve tried so many I can’t count … and while I often start strong, I have fallen off “my own wagon” so many times that it’s a miracle I’m not all battered and bruised! Then I pick myself up, find a new thing and begin to work my way back. It’s a continual cycle for me, and it’s maddening!!!!

Spurring Kindness

Three weeks ago, as I shared in recent blogs, I had the pleasure of visiting Nashville for a fan event with some of my Days of our Lives castmates. And this week, I was excited to find that my suitcase from the trip had finally arrived back at the studio. Not my actual suitcase, but one that was thoughtfully assembled by some amazing fans. Inside was literally a treasure of goodies that these wonderful ladies brought from all over the country – each one representing the area in which they live.

Taking Care of Beauty: Microneedling with PRP

Last week I shared my recommitment to myself, including health, fitness and beauty. And, I told you I was going to try something new at my husband’s medspa. This week’s video blog takes you inside the spa treatment room with me, and gives you an up close and personal look at my microneedling with PRP procedure.

As I’ve shared, I’m not typically too obsessed with appearance, but I do think it’s important to take care of yourself. A basic facial is more my norm, but I wanted to try a little something different … and I wanted to share the experience with you.

In the few weeks since my treatment I’ve been very pleased with the outcome, although I understand it could take 3-6 months to see optimum results.

(This is the actual treatment, and while it’s not too bad, if you’re squeamish … be warned. Please note, this treatment should only be performed by a trained, licensed professional – RN, PA or MD. Also, I’m not prescribing this … talk to your medical advisor to see if it is the right option for you.)

Pulling It Together: Closet Lessons for Life

I love reading the comments sent in by readers, and I not only appreciate your willingness to share, but also I am inspired by your stories. I’m inspired by people who take life and run with it … who plow ahead without looking back. People like Dr. Christie Laming.

When I received this note from Christie, I was so moved by her story, and I can relate to so much of what this survivor talks about! (and by the way she should be writing a blog instead of me ). I thought others should also know about her brave, bold and beautiful outlook on life.

Thank you beyond words, Christie, for trusting us in the PLANK community enough to share your story.  I am proud of you! Keep reaching for all that life has to offer!
